Chaos to Order (2024) 200 x 200cm, Mixed media and phosphorescent pigment

14.500,00 €Price

Painting Description

Chaos to Order (2024) examines the consolidation of fragmented experience into a coherent sense of self. Executed as a triple scene painting, the work unfolds across shifting light conditions, revealing layered narratives that emerge and recede under natural light, ultraviolet illumination and in darkness. The changing visibility mirrors the instability and reconstruction inherent in identity formation.

Incorporating Korowai references, the painting engages with Māori cultural symbolism while extending into broader reflections on leadership, inheritance and responsibility. The Korowai, traditionally associated with status and guardianship, becomes both anchor and burden, a structure that stabilises while simultaneously carrying historical weight.

Through its scale and compositional tension, Chaos to Order moves between rupture and resolution. Surface fragmentation gradually resolves into formal balance, suggesting that harmony is not the absence of chaos but its transformation. The work was presented during the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, marking a significant moment within Green’s ongoing exploration of cultural and psychological identity.
