Golden Worlds
19.04.2016 -06.06.2016

The exhibition "Golden Worlds" marks a significant turning point in Veronica Green's career. About half of the works in this exhibition are in line with her historical practice, featuring brightly coloured narratives with figures of children and fairy-tale characters engaged in acts of defiance or contrition. The other half, described as the golden section, diverges from this approach by focusing on the abstract qualities of her dreamlike landscapes. While these pieces still include her familiar symbolic characters, their presence is markedly reduced, allowing the landscapes themselves to take center stage.

These abstract landscapes share similarities with traditional Chinese landscape painting, where terraces and flora float in their own perspectives without a vanishing point to indicate spaces and distance. Each element is equally important to the viewers eye. The absence of a horizon is emphasised by painterly drips along the margins that move in various directions. This creates a sense of freedom for the viewer to project through the canvas, as if flying toward the center. The effect is akin to viewing worlds through a lens or crystal ball, which becomes even more enchanting when the lights are turned off. Behind each world lies another, a nighttime realm full of stars and surprises.

This exhibition at Cospace Galleries, Shanghai, serves as an introduction to Green's abstract paintings, showcasing her evolution as an artist.
